WHAT: Annual kick off event for Little Italy Summer Streets weekends that will feature ribbon cutting ceremony at 12PM and followed by a new funny game show called Manners & Manicotti at 2PM with host Aunt Chippy & Thomas P Farley who will test your manners skills with funny multiple choice questions and how to eat pasta correctly and pronounce hard to say Italian dishes. Contestants will be able to enter to win prizes like dinner for 2 at area restaurants and Italian food/wine gift baskets.

Every Summer Little Italy closes off Mulberry Street to auto traffic and the restaurants extend their sidewalk cafes out and there are roaming live musical acts and balloon twisters for the kids. From Friday night through Sunday night for 16 summer weekends.

Later this summer, Olek’s unique artwork will be featured at the Smithsonian museum in Washington, D.C. as part of their 40 Under 40: Craft Futures exhibit. It’ll run from July 20 through February 3.

Improvise Combustion is a show concept to liken the visual medium to a group jazz ensemble. For this particular session, soloists perform as a single form or band unit, an opportunity for the artists to re-unite and re-ignite collaborative connections. There is no head or tail but rather like an organic landscape, a sound-scape and visual-scape that embraces and connects to create and unfold a story of improvising magicians unleashing and expressing for the sake of creating. The end result is a story of atoms colliding and energy bursting, creating chaotical in the midst of controlled expressions, ultimately, an ‘Improvise Combustion.’

Improvise Combustion runs through June 13 at 164 Suffolk Street.

Miami-based Lords South Beach, the first LGBT hotel of its kind in the country, is joining forces with the Hotel on Rivington for the inaugural “Pride pop-up.” Starting June 18, Lords is hijacking the glass tower to commemorate Pride Month 2012. The lobby will be painted hot pink, and will also feature artwork from the Florida branch.

“The Lords brand prides itself on showcasing the creativity and strengths of the LGBT community,” said [Lords founder Brian] Gorman. “What better way to do this than by hosting the first-ever pop-up hotel during New York City Pride? We are looking forward to creating a fun and unique experience for our guests in New York.”

Guests will experience everything they have come to love about Lords South Beach at Lords New York at Hotel on Rivington. The Hotel on Rivington lobby will be painted the Lords New York signature hot pink, and will be displaying artwork from the Lords South Beach lobby – including a work featuring Elizabeth Taylor, whose portrait decorates every guestroom in Miami.

Lords New York at Hotel on Rivington is a week-long event that runs through June 24.

The youth were getting restless- a rather large march through the Lower East Side in support of the students protesting the tuition hikes in the Montreal colleges – were over 100 protesters. Ended at Union Square around 10 PM.

All the hubbub caused authorities to close Tompkins Square Park early.

Students around Quebec are defending accessible public education and protesting tuition hikes. Some recent demonstrations have ballooned in size to around 300,000 people. Bedlam.

Workers onsite informed us that these trees were being inspected for the vicious Asian Longhorned Beetle. No word on whether any were found. Let’s hope not, as those buggers kill the plantlife.
